Russia has declared war on Ukraine
This comes after Russian President Vladimir Putin declared "a special military operation" to "demilitarize" Ukraine, thus declaring war on the country.Putin said NATO was endangering Russia's survival, and that to safeguard it, he is deploying Russian military into Ukraine in a televised announcement that broadcast just before 5 a.m. Kyiv time.
The announcement comes just days after Russia declared its enclaves in eastern Ukraine's Luhansk and Donetsk oblasts independent nations on February 21. Since 2014, Russia has been occupying regions in eastern Ukraine and the Crimean peninsula.
Following the "recognition," the Kremlin-installed authorities of eastern Ukraine's occupied districts demanded that Russia provide military support against a rumored Ukrainian army onslaught, which has yet to be proven.
Putin responded to their remarks by announcing the start of a "special military operation."
