Islamic singer Rukayat Gawat is dead

The well-known Islamic singer from Nigeria, Rukayat Gawat Oyefeso, has passed away.

She gained notoriety for her mesmerizing voice and her devotional songs, which many in the Muslim community found moving.

Popular Ilorin-based cleric Alfa Aribidesi At-Tawdeeh Islamic Da'awah posted the news of her passing on his official Facebook page early on Tuesday.

The news of her passing has been extensively disseminated, and her followers as well as the larger Islamic music industry, are grieving greatly.

Jubril A. Gawat, the deceased's brother and family member, has confirmed this tragic news in the interim.

On Tuesday morning, Jubril—a Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu—quoted a passage from the Quran on his X account.

His post has garnered so much traction with followers and associates expressing their condolences.

A few years back, the awful news that well-known Islamic broadcaster Aremu Gawat had vanished stunned the whole country.

It was said that the TV host departed his workplace on July 6, 2012, and it was the last time anyone heard from him.

She stated in a 2019 interview that she would prefer to give up music than become secular.

The late singer, who was from Igbaja, Kwara State, was married to Alhaji Shakiri Oyefeso, despite being born on Lagos Island.
