Another baby seller arrested

The rate at which people are selling new born’s in the country is becoming alarming and the trend is fast becoming increasing

A woman who allegedly sold her baby for N1.5 million has been arrested by the police in Delta State.

A 33-year-old woman, in from Okpanam Community in Delta State, Elizabeth Okolie, has been arrested by police detectives attached to the State Police Command in Asaba, for allegedly selling her three-months-old baby for N1.5 million, reported Daily Post.

Okolie, a local trader, according to police reports, decided to sell the baby after the man she claimed put her in the family way refused to accept paternity of the baby.

She was said to have connived with a Benin, Edo State based child trafficker to sell the baby and was nabbed on her way back from Benin where she had gone to sell the child.



The State Police Commissioner, Alkali Baba Usman, while parading Okolie, said that detectives acted on a tip off and arrested her after she had allegedly sold the baby to an unidentified buyer and that upon interrogation, she made useful statements to the police, just as plans are underway to go after and apprehend the buyer.

He added that Okolie's family members informed the police that she had eloped with the man and claimed to be married to him but when she put to bed, he refused to accept responsibility, prompting her to sell the baby.
