A father has been charged with sexually abusing his own child

The girl, on the other hand, surprised the police officers by revealing that she is in love with her own father.

In Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa state, the 38-year-old Baridap Needman allegedly impregnated his 14-year-old biological daughter.

Gender Response Initiative Team (GRIT), a state gender advocacy group led by Dise Ogbise Esq, lodged a formal complaint to the police, which led to the arrest of the suspect, who is from Ogani Wily Kaira Community in Ogoni, Rivers State.

A worried neighbor informed the GRIT that the victim was five months pregnant and that the father was responsible for the pregnancy, according to Ogbise.

The jailed father was accused of abusing his daughter by fingering her since she was seven years old, but things worsened after the victim's mother died a few years ago.

According to the Nigerian Tribune, the accused father then replaced his deceased wife on his matrimonial bed with his daughter. Her two younger brothers were forced to sleep on the floor while the 14-year-old girl in Junior Secondary School 3 slept with her father on the bed.

When the pregnant 14-year-old expressed her love for her alleged father, officers at the Ekeki Police Station, where the case was reported, were taken aback.

The GRIT's Chairwoman, on the other hand, assured reporters that the advocacy group, in partnership with the Ministry of Women Affairs, would provide psychosocial support to the victim and guarantee that she was adequately cared for until her due date.

"Abortion is not an option, so the two brothers have been turned up to a family member to be cared for properly. The Girl will be taken into government care and will be required to return to school. Her ambition is to be a musician, and we will support her," she said.
