WhatsApp is a messaging platform owned by Facebook, and has already discontinued its support for some phones including Nokia and BlackBerry.
WhatsApp officially ended their support for all Windows phones on December 31, 2019.
Today is January 1, 2020. All users of windows operating system enabled phones will not be able to run WhatsApp nor chat with their friends and family members from today.
Just like blackberry, Windows Phone Users will have to get themselves a new WhatsApp enabled phone if they want to continue using the instant messaging platform.
WhatsApp previously announced they ended support for Windows phones in an official blog. The blog writes, “All Windows Phone operating systems after December 31, 2019" will no longer be able to run WhatsApp nor chat with family and friends".
Why did WhatsApp discontinue their service on Windows Phones ?
WhatsApp revealed in an official blog post that it is ending its service for the Windows phones as “they don’t offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app’s features in the future”.

WhatsApp noted in the blogpost, “This was a tough decision for us to make, but the right one in order to give people better ways to keep in touch with friends, family, and loved ones using WhatsApp. If you use one of these affected mobile devices, we recommend upgrading to a newer Android, iPhone, or Windows Phone before the end of 2019 to continue using WhatsApp.”
Does this matter?
WhatsApp’s decision to end its support for Windows operating system shouldn't be a problem as majority of its users have Android Phones and iPhones with upgraded or new operating systems.

WhatsApp will stop working on some iPhones as well as Android phones running on older iOS and OS versions after February 1, 2020.
All iPhones running iOS 7 and older OS versions will no longer support WhatsApp, also Android phones running on versions 2.3.7 and older will no longer support WhatsApp.
Previously, WhatsApp discontinued its service for Nokia Symbian S40, S60, BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10, among others.
