APC wins Kogi election

Finally the political saga in Kogi has been laid to rest as APC wins gubernatorial election!!!

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Alh. Yahaya Bello as the winner of the governorship poll in Kogi State, following the supplementary election held yesterday Saturday, December 5th.

APC polled 247,752 votes to defeat PDP who came second with 204,877 votes.

Prof. Emmanuel Kucha, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi who is the Chief Returning Officer for the election, declaring the results in Lokoja, said the APC polled 6885 votes to beat the incumbent governor, Idris Wada of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who got 5363 votes.

He said, “having fulfilled all legal requirements, Alh. Yahaya Bello is declared winner of the election and Kogi Governor-Elect”.

Abiodun Faleke remains the running mate to Alh Bello. The supplementary poll took place in 18 of the 21 Local Government Areas in the state.

The streets of Lokoja, Kotonkarfe and Okene erupted in jubilation immediately the results were announced as people poured into the streets in hundreds to celebrate the victory.

The collation of results was temporarily suspended when an agent of the PDP asked about the status of APC running mate. But the Resident Electoral Commissioner said Faleke remains the running mate to Alh. Yahaya Bello.
