There are some people who still have a sense of duty to protect humanity even at the cost of their life and one of such people is Adel Termos
On Thursday, just a day before the deadly terrorist attacks in Paris that left over 158 people dead and had over 200 injured, Beirut in Lebanon was subjected to twin blasts that have caused at least 43 deaths and over 200 injuries.
But the casualties might have been higher if it weren’t for Adel Termos. The Beirut local was out with his young daughter in south Beirut’s Burj al-Barajneh when the first suicide bomber detonated his explosives’ vest outside a nearby Shiite mosque.
As crowds were gathering outside the mosque, Termos spotted a second bomber, who was approaching the crowds.
In a split-second decision, Termos threw himself at the second bomber.
The bomb went off, killing Termos and his daughter.
However, his sacrifice saved many lives in the area.
“There are many, many families, hundreds of families probably, who owe their lives to his sacrifice,” says blogger and physician Elie Fares.
Thursday’s twin blasts in Beirut shattered a relative calm that has been held since mid-2014 in the Mediterranean country, according to the Associated Press.
It was also one of the deadliest suicide attacks in the country, and was quickly claimed by the extremist Islamic State group.
