BREAKING: Queen Elizabeth II is died

Queen Elizabeth II, who ruled the UK for 70 years, has passed away at Balmoral at the age of 96

The monarch of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Queen Elizabeth II, has passed away.

She died away on Thursday after her medical professionals expressed worry for her wellbeing.

It was a "time of tremendous anguish" for him and his family, according to her son King Charles III, and her loss will be "deeply felt" all around the world.

Following growing worries over her health early on Thursday, senior royals convened at her Scottish home.

The Queen saw significant societal change after ascending to the throne in 1952.

We deeply lament the loss of a beloved mother and beloved sovereign, declared King Charles.

"I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world."

He will take the throne as the next King and ruler of 14 Commonwealth states, leading the nation in grief. His wife Camilla takes the throne as Queen Consort.

During the coming period, he said he and his family would be "comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which the Queen was so widely held".

Buckingham Palace released the following statement: "The Queen passed away peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.

"The King and the Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow."

Following the Queen's placement under medical supervision, all of her children made their way to Balmoral, which is close to Aberdeen.

Prince William, her grandson, is also present, and Prince Harry is en route.

Prime Minister Liz Truss, who was appointed by the Queen on Tuesday, said the monarch was the rock on which modern Britain was built, who had "provided us with the stability and strength that we needed".

She stated of the new King: "We offer him our allegiance and love, just as his mother so much and so long ago gave to so many.

"And with the passing of the second Elizabethan age, we usher in a new era in the magnificent history of our great country, exactly as Her Majesty would have wished, by saying the words 'God save the King'."
