According to SaharaReporters, some supporters of Yoruba separatist leader, Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho have stormed the office of the Consulate General of Benin Republic on Victoria Island, Lagos, to protest against his incarceration
The protestors also demanded the release of Igboho from detention in Benin Republic. .They stormed the office of the Consulate General with placards stating their demands and called on Yoruba leaders and other Nigerians to ensure Igboho’s release.
They warned that Igboho must not die in detention, describing him as innocent.
Igboho and his wife, Ropo were arrested in Benin Republic in July while trying to travel to Germany after a deadly raid on his house in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The Department of State Services (DSS) had declared Igboho wanted after raiding his house on July 1, killing two people and arresting others.
They had accused Igboho of stockpiling arms to fight the Nigerian state in his agitation for a separate Yoruba Nation.
Igboho has denied the allegations.
However, he has since been detained in Benin Republic as the Nigerian government lobbies the government of the neighboring West African country to have Igboho extradited.
