Mom gushed about daughter Erin Edwards, son before killing them and herself

An Atlanta mom who allegedly killed her daughter, a former NBC 4 New York intern, and her son in their home before taking her own life had gushed about both children in her final Instagram post.

Marsha Edwards last posted on Instagram Wednesday, the same day all three were found dead of gunshot wounds inside the family’s Cobb County townhouse.

“I’ve had the best summer, first with [Chris] in Miami, and Erin in Italy,” she wrote with a smiling selfie. “I could not ask for better children.”

The 58-year-old mom allegedly shot and killed her daughter, Erin Edwards, 20, and her son, Christopher Edwards, 24, local police told NBC affiliate WTHR.

The grisly scene was uncovered during a welfare check at the family’s Nobility Way home.

Marsha and Christopher, a digital content manager for the Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Film and Entertainment, had attended the National Association of Black Journalists annual conference in Miami two weeks ago.

Then, the mom’s Instagram indicates that she and Erin took a trip to Italy.

She shared snaps of the pair in Florence, at the Leaning Tower of Pisa and at a vineyard in Tuscany.

Erin interned for NBC New York’s digital team this summer while on a break from Boston University, the station reported Thursday.

On June 7, Marsha shared an Instagram post with a screenshot of one of Erin’s recent bylines.

The Edwards family was well-known within their Atlanta community.

Marsha founded a medical equipment supply company. The children’s father and Marsha’s ex-husband, Dr. Christopher Edwards is an Atlanta-area surgeon.

He is also the chairman of the Atlanta Housing Authority board, a spokesman for the family told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Dr. Edwards, his extended family and friends are in a state of grief and shock, and privacy of the family is paramount as arrangements are being made,” spokesman Jeff Dickerson told the paper in an emailed statement.

Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, along with her husband, also shared their condolences in a statement obtained by the paper.

Derek and I join the greater Atlanta community in mourning the loss of three members of the beloved Edwards family,” Bottoms said. “Chris and Erin were beautiful, vibrant and brilliant young adults whom we had the pleasure of knowing their entire lives. They filled the lives of all who met them with joy, compassion and kindness. May the peace of God, that surpasses all understanding, be with the Edwards family and all who had the honor to have known them.

Police haven’t released a motive in the slaying.
